School meals are thoughtfully crafted by the Nutrition & Wellness Department, guided by an on-staff registered dietitian. Our menus comply with the standards of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs, as established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, signed into law on December 13, 2010, set out to enhance child nutrition by updating the National School Lunch and Breakfast program guidelines, effective from the 2012-13 school year. These updates introduced specific changes tailored to different grade levels, including:
✅Minimum Targets for Servings of Grain
✅Minimum Targets for Servings of Meat/Meat Alternate
✅Increasing Fruit
✅Increase Vegetables
✅Increasing Whole Grains
✅Minimum and Maximum Dietary Specifications (Calories, Saturated Fat, and Sodium)
Supply Chain Issues
As the school year continues, we are working diligently to ensure that students’ favorite, nutritious menu items are made available to sustain a learning-enriched school day. However, obstacles such as supply chain issues and labor shortages are proving to be a challenge in the school nutrition community. Nevertheless, we are committed to providing nutritious meals to fuel student learning every day despite the daily challenges. It is our hope that this short video provides an explanation of supply chain issues and labor shortages that we are facing each day.
